£72 million is set to be invested in maintaining and improving Lancashire’s roads in 2026/27.

Plans, which are going before cabinet on 5th March, include road resurfacing, bridge and drainage repairs, and upgrades to street lighting.

Priority will be given to key A, B and C roads: the main routes most people use every day.

The council says continued investment and preventative maintenance are vital to improving performance and securing future funding.

"Helping residents feel proud of where they live”

County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“Lancashire residents deserve roads that are safe, reliable and repaired properly the first time.

“This £72 million programme allows us to focus on the routes people use every day, and make sure repairs last longer.

“It’s about using our limited resources to make sure the money we spend has the maximum impact on our roads – delivering value for money and helping residents feel proud of where they live.”

Funding

The programme would use £48.5 million in highway maintenance funding from the Department for Transport and £18.5 million from the county council’s 2026/27 budget.

Additional investment and carry over funding bring the total amount to £72 million.

If approved, works will take place in 2026 and 2027.
