Water should start coming back on for thousands of homes in Tunbridge Wells this morning.

A problem at Pembury Water Treatment works saw taps run dry over the weekend.

South East Water say water tanks which supply the local area are now being refilled.

In the latest statement on their website they say:

"Good news! We are beginning to fill our drinking water storage tanks at Pembury Water Treatment Works, once they have reached a good level, we will be able to send water to our drinking water storage tank at Blackhurst. This is the drinking water storage tank which supplies your area.

"This process has to be completed slowly, to ensure we don't cause any further issues to the network, however we expect customer supplies to start to return throughout this morning."

H2 Discolouration warning

When your water supply returns, South East Water has warned it may appear discoloured. Brown water, caused by small iron particles being disturbed in the mains, is not harmful, and cloudy or white water may simply be more aerated than usual.

Residents are advised to run water from their cold kitchen tap until it clears.

Bottled water stations

Until supplies are fully restored, bottled water stations will be open from 8:30am at the following locations:

Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre, St John's Rd, Royal Tunbridge Wells TN4 9TX

RCP Parking, Tunbridge Wells, TN2 5TP

Odeon Cinema Knights Way, Tunbridge Wells TN2 3UW

What next?

South East Water have apologised to their customers for the disruption.

Local MP Mike Martin said:

"This situation raises many questions about South East Water. For now, I am focusing on the immediate crisis and getting water to vulnerable people. We will deal with South East Water in the coming days."
