A trial date has been set for a man who allegedly tried to kill an Army officer outside his barracks in Kent.

Anthony Esan, 25, is accused of the attempted murder of Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton, who was stabbed in Sally Port Gardens near Brompton Barracks in Chatham on July 23 last year.

Since the attack, the case has been repeatedly delayed as investigations over Esan's mental ill health and fitness to plead have been made.

At Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, a trial date of February 2 next year was set, although the court is expecting further psychological reports before that date.

The trial will take place at the same court and is listed for three to four weeks.

Esan, who also faces a charge of possession of a bladed weapon, is expected to attend a plea hearing by video-link from Broadmoor Hospital on November 27.

Lt Col Teeton was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the attack and a gofundme page has raised almost £50,000 to support him and his family.
