Simpler Recycling service launches in Thanet to streamline waste collection
New recycling service is set to begin this week, affecting one third of local households

Residents of Thanet can expect changes to their waste collection services with the launch of Simpler Recycling, a new service starting this week.
This initiative aims to streamline waste collection across the area, particularly addressing challenges faced by households in flats, narrow streets, and properties using communal bins.
From mid-April, one third of households in Thanet will receive a weekly food waste collection alongside alternating collections of general waste and other recyclables, similar to the existing service for most households.
The changes aim to enhance recycling efforts as over 40% of general waste has historically been food waste. To assist residents with this transition, a 'starter kit' comprising a kitchen caddy, biodegradable liners, and a lockable brown caddy will be distributed. Mixed recyclables can be placed in clear plastic sacks provided for easy collection.
While the introduction of Simpler Recycling may require some adjustments, the council say it promises to maintain current collection days, minimizing disruption.
For those living in flats with communal bins, specially tailored plans will be implemented, including dedicated bins for food waste and mixed recycling.
