Residents of Sevenoaks say they use cars 'sparingly' and travel to find more affordable fuel.

Farmers are warning that increased costs of petrol and fertiliser will eventually reach customers, while the price difference between diesel and petrol in the UK has reached its highest level since at least 2003.

According to the RAC, the average price of a litre of diesel rose to almost 1-pound-80 on Sunday - 28 pence more than petrol costs.

Jeffery, who lives near Kent in Limpsfield told us "I use diesel and it's gone up massively, whether it's short term, who knows. I suppose it makes you think about whether a trip is really essential or not. Simple as that. As for longer trips, yeah. Um, we're we're thinking carefully about it."

Richard, who lives in Sevenoaks, told us he only uses his petrol car for essential journeys, and prefers to go electric in order to save money.

While Janine told us "It's really expensive at the moment. So I travel to a much cheaper petrol station than the one near where I live. I've got friends that I visit when I go to get petrol, but it's it's 10 pence a litre less, so that makes quite a big difference. I make sure I always fill up when I'm over there. "

Dawn said the worst impacted was to her business, who use fleet vans to transport their stock, while Colin told us his oil fired central heating is their biggest concern.
