Ex-Olympic gold medallist champions local fundraiser
Kent, Surrey Sussex air ambulance have launched the Run 31 campaign, championed by Sally Gunnell
Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance charity have launched their new fundraiser called Run 31.
They're challenging people to walk or run a mile a day throughout January to raise money for the service.
It's being championed by ex-Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell who told us she hopes the great cause can inspire people to get moving
"I think it is about being motivated and I think if you know that you're going to get yourself out there and walking or running every day in that mile but you're doing it for a really good cause."
In order to remain operational, the KSS air ambulance have to raise around £57,000 a day, which Sally told us makes fundraisers like this all the more critical
"It costs them £57,000 a day to run this charity. And they're doing nine missions a day to help and rescue people and to get them to hospitals and all of those sorts of things. So it's for such a good cause, raising that money which is so so needed
We never know when we need that air ambulance service here in Kent, Surrey or Sussex.
I just think we all need to do our sort of little bit in Kent, Surrey or Sussex to really help support the air ambulance charity and I think if everybody does that and helps raise that amount of money that we need to find each day, then it's life-saving, isn't it?"
Sally also spoke to us about how important she thinks it is for people to get moving, and why this time after Christmas and New Year can be the perfect time to do so
"I think we always want to get people as physically active as possible and I always think just everyone should get up, even if it is just a walk throughout your day, adding up to that mile
I think we all like to overindulge a little bit over Christmas and New Year, and then we all get to January and think about what we can do. And often I think it is about being motivated
It is just such a lovely charity to be in part of. And for me, naturally, I want to get people, you know, fit and healthy and active and moving and it's just a lovely little link."
