Rochester man jailed for historic rapes of teenage girl
Craig Haines sentenced to 8 years following abuse over three decades ago
A Rochester man has been sentenced to eight years and six months in prison for the repeated rapes of a teenage girl in the early 1990s.
Craig Haines, now 53, was convicted following a police investigation into the offences, which occurred between December 1991 and April 1992.
The victim reported that the assaults took place at Haines' home on Dale Road, Rochester, where he also threatened her with violence.
Following the investigation, Haines was charged with two counts of rape and pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court on 4th March 2026.
He was sentenced at the same court on 11th June and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Victim bravery and police support
Detective Constable Emma Davies acknowledged the significant impact Haines' abuse has had on the victim.
“Haines abused the young victim who has been left traumatised, and his actions have had a lasting and profound impact upon her life," Davies said.
"I would like to commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward to report her ordeal and assisting the investigation.
"I hope the conclusion of the case and the sentence passed may provide some closure for her.”
Davies encouraged other victims of sexual abuse to contact Kent Police, regardless of when the offence occurred.
“You will have our full support and we will always investigate crimes sensitively and professionally,” Davies added.
The case highlights the commitment of law enforcement to pursue justice for victims of historic offences, ensuring offenders are held accountable for their actions.
