Two drivers have been disqualified and sentenced after dangerously racing at high speeds on the M2 near Rochester.

The incident occurred at 10.43pm on 15th September 2025 when an unmarked patrol vehicle was overtaken by two cars travelling coastbound between junctions 2 and 3.

The vehicles were initially estimated to be speeding at 90 to 100mph before accelerating to 120mph, weaving through traffic and using the hard shoulder.

Officers recorded an average speed of over 111mph across a mile before intercepting the racers.

Liam Gammon, 21, from Victoria Crescent, Ashford, and Billy Little, 19, from Lunsford Lane, Larkfield, were charged with dangerous driving and participating in a race on a public road.

Billy Little faced an additional charge for having an incorrectly printed number plate.

Both men pleaded guilty to their charges in April and were subsequently sentenced at Thanet Magistrates' Court on Monday 18th May 2026.

The court handed them a 30-week custodial sentence suspended for 12 months.

They were disqualified from driving for 18 months, ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work, and instructed to pay £272 in costs.

Inspector David Crompton commented: ‘We want to remind people that exceeding the speed limit, particularly to such extreme levels, is one of the four fatal factors that greatly increase the likelihood of a fatal collision.’

Inspector Crompton stressed the potential dangers: ‘It’s a wonder these two didn’t cause a serious collision, putting not only their lives at risk but also those of other road users.’

He warned of future consequences: ‘Anyone thinking of following in their example should consider how limiting disqualification can be, as well as the repercussions it can have on your work or family life. If they do commit any other offences in the next year, this race may see them put behind bars.’
