Police issue appeal after Canterbury fire

The cause is being treated as suspicious

Kent Police says a fire in Canterbury is being treated as suspicious and witnesses and dashcam footage are being sought by detectives.

Officers were called at 2.16pm on Saturday (14 February 2026) to a report of a fire at a derelict building in St George’s Place.

Police attended to assist with road closures and the temporary evacuation of local residents while crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire.

Two 14-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson and have been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

An investigation is ongoing and police say the cause is being treated as suspicious.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or might have relevant dashcam footage from the area, particularly from 1pm to 2.15pm on Saturday 14 February, is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/25824/26.
