A controversial new McDonald’s restaurant is set to open in Herne Bay after receiving the final approval needed for its rooftop ventilation and plant equipment.

Concerns from local residents regarding noise and smells delayed the launch originally planned for 14th October, as they called for more attention to be given to the potential impact on the surrounding area.

The site, which replaces the former Table Table restaurant next to the Premier Inn hotel off Margate Road, drew mixed feelings from the community, but was approved by Canterbury City Council’s planning committee on 13th October.

Cllr Ian Stockley acknowledged the concerns from residents, particularly those living close to the site, regarding the potential disturbances the restaurant may cause.

Planning conditions restrict cooking at the site between midnight and 6am to mitigate overnight noise and smell issues.

McDonald’s assured the council that the equipment is suitable for the location, promising no adverse impact on the local environment.

The application was approved by six votes to two. McDonald’s has not yet provided a comment on the approval.
