A man has been jailed for manslaughter after police say two punches led to the death of a victim in Chatham.

John Farmer has been sentenced to 10 years after assaulting his victim, reportedly without provocation, in a car park on Magpie Hall Road on the 1st April 2024.

The victim, who was aged 33, collapsed and was taken to a London hospital by paramedics, and was pronounced dead the following day.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber, said: "This sentence highlights the serious repercussions of assaulting someone without considering the potential harm that may be caused.

"Farmer’s punches led to a man tragically losing his life and he must now face the consequences of his actions over several years.

"I would like to thank the witnesses who has assisted our investigation and hope the victim’s family and friends can find some closure now this man has been brought to justice."

Investigators arrested Mr Farmer, of Coronation Road, Chatham, on the 4th April and he was later charged with manslaughter.

Mr Farmer entered not guilty pleas at court and was convicted following a trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

The 45-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in jail at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday 12th February 2026, with an extended licence period of three years.
