Man charged after an investigation into fake number plates sold in Kent

A man from Gravesend has been charged after an investigation into the alleged sale of fake number plates in North Kent and Medway.

George Cowley, of Mountside Close, has been charged with conspiracy to steal vehicles and making an article, namely false vehicle registrations, in connection with fraud.

Kent police received reports that offenders could obtain fake identities for their vehicles in 2024.

On Thursday 14 August 2025 search warrants were executed at business premises in Northfleet and Higham.

Two men were arrested and taken into custody.

Officers also seized a quantity of suspected stolen car parts and other equipment.

Cowley, 46, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court the following day.

He was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 12 September.

A second man, aged 26 and from Northfleet, was bailed to return to the police station pending further investigation.
