A dispersal order will be in place in Whitstable today and tomorrow, to tackle reports of antisocial behaviour in the area.

Enforcement started at 3pm on Friday 11 July and will run until the afternoon of Sunday 13 July 2025.

Areas covered include the seafront, Harbour Street, and the area of the town between Tankerton and Joy Lanes.

The police said the order gives officers additional powers to move on anyone over 10 years old causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who return to the area once dispersed.

The order has been introduced into the town following reports this week of underage drinking and groups of young people using catapults to damage property and hurt wildlife.

Chief Superintendent Rob Marsh said: "We are committed to ensuring residents and visitors feel safe and confident when out and about and we will not tolerate intimidating or disorderly behaviour.

"Officers will be patrolling the area, and anyone found causing a nuisance will be required to leave.

"Those that choose to return once dispersed can expect to be detained.

"Work is ongoing with businesses regarding the sales of catapults to young people and we are also asking parents to ensure their child is not part of the group causing these issues.

"We will be taking action against offenders. Anyone under 18 found to be drinking publicly can also expect their alcohol to be confiscated by officers.

"Anybody who wishes to report instances of antisocial behaviour should report it online via the Kent Police website. If a crime is in progress, please don’t hesitate to call 999."

Meanwhile, police also said dispersal orders are in place in Thanet as well this weekend.

The Section 34 dispersal orders in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate last for 48 hours, and began at 2pm on Friday 11 July 2025.
