The Kent police commissioner is encourage local organisations with projects to make communities safer to apply for funding.

Stolen items have been sold at auction to provide the Kent Police Property Fund, a funding pot that local organisations can tap into.

The projects must aim to create safer communities and reduce anti-social behaviour.

The groups can include charities, social enterprises and community interest companies with a connection to Kent.

The county’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Scott launched the call for the latest round of funding applications.

A statement from the commissioner’s office said: “Organisations that have a clear connection to Kent and undertake work that benefits the local community and promote safety and well-being are invited to apply for funding to support their projects.”

Mr Scott said: “Cutting crime, supporting victims and building trust is at the core of everything we do.

“It is my hope that this fund will achieve all three of these goals by empowering local organisations to deliver meaningful projects that will impact people’s lives, strengthen communities and make Kent safer.

“I have seen fantastic work done by many charity or voluntary organisations in the past and we know how big of an impact these can have on people.

“I look forward to supporting these organisations further and am excited to see the real-world impact they are going to make in Kent.”

Earlier this year, a Future Skills programme based in Dover received funds to buy computer equipment with a view to support local young people into work or training.

In Medway, the fund helped the families of military personnel with a £1,000 donation which helped the Brompton and Invicta Military Wives’ Choir.

The group brings together women who have armed forces connections from all parts of the United Kingdom to sing and support one another in the challenges that come with military life.
