A Worcestershire woman says she's looking forward to competing in her first ever TIMBERSPORTS British Women’s Championship.

The competition is set to take place later today (15 June) at the Royal Three Counties Show in Malvern, with the British Championship and British Rookie Championship also taking place over the weekend.

Athletes from across the country take part in the competition which sees how fast they can chop through large logs using a combination of axes.

There's four different disciplines to it in total, the stock saw, standing block chop, single buck and underhand chop, with athletes earning points based on their times to complete each one.

43-year-old Louise Ellison from Evesham says she can't wait to get going and seeing how she gets on.

"I'm really excited it's something different and it's out of my comfort zone," she said.

"I watched the Women's British Championships last year with my daughter and while we were watching, we had a conversation about how the determination and the resilience and the strength and the dedication made these ladies a role model.

"My plan is to go and enjoy it, soak up the atmosphere, everybody who competes have been fantastic and it's just spending a weekend having fun chopping wood."

Felixia Banck from Denmark was the winner of last year's competition, finishing the four different disciplines in a total time of 4 minutes 29 second and collecting 29 points.
