Worcestershire County Council is encouraging residents to take proactive steps to understand and prepare for local flood risks during Flood Action Week.

Flooding can arise from various sources such as rivers, surface water, and smaller watercourses, and weather conditions can suddenly change.

By checking if their homes, businesses, or regular travel routes are at risk, residents can create simple flood plans to ensure preparedness.

Precautionary measures including safeguarding important documents, knowing how to turn off utilities, preparing emergency kits, and relocating valuable items if flooding is expected are advised.

The council also recommends signing up for flood warnings via phone, text, or email to gain timely information and make informed decisions when flooding is forecast.

Councillor Josh Robinson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities, emphasized the importance of understanding flood risks and preparing in advance.

Robinson stated the council's ongoing efforts with partners to enhance flood resilience and reduce risks across the county through community preparedness initiatives.

Flood Action Week serves as a platform to build community resilience by developing Community Resilience Plans with parish councils.

These plans aim to identify local resources, improve local response strategies, and ensure support during emergencies.
