The former NHS building, Isaac Maddox House, located in Shrub Hill Road, Worcester, is poised for a significant transformation.

The site will become an enterprise centre as part of a wider regeneration effort in the Shrub Hill Quarter.

After being vacant for roughly six years, the building is now cleared of asbestos and stripped out, awaiting refurbishment.

Malvern-based contractors Speller Metcalfe have been hired for this extensive project, with renovations scheduled to begin by autumn and continue for approximately a year.

Penny Unwin, from Worcestershire County Council, explained that the building has been stripped of power and heating systems in preparation for the fit-out.

The project, a collaboration between the county and city councils, involves significant alterations including the formation of individual units accessible from the car park.

A grand double-height entrance hall will welcome visitors, leading to partitioned offices available for small businesses on the ground floor.

The first floor is reserved for open-plan space suitable for larger businesses.

Shared areas, including meeting rooms and kitchens, will be available to all tenants, offering versatility with two levels of roof terraces.

Alan Amos, cabinet member for business and skills, highlighted the building’s flexibility and scenic views of the Engine Works.

Lynn Denham, leader of Worcester City Council, emphasised the building’s iconic status, noting that it holds nostalgic significance for many in the community.

The surrounding land of Isaac Maddox House is also ready for development, with sites cleared to attract developers.

An attached Pitstop garage is also being considered for conversion, potentially into a café supporting the new enterprise centre.
