University of Worcester staff member 'humbled' by support during 50-hour 'pool-a-thon'
Ian Alley took to the pool table and played for just over two days to fundraise for students at the university that are facing financial hardship
A University of Worcester staff member who 'potted away' on the pool table for just over two days has thanked everyone that supported him across it.
Student welfare officer Ian Alley started his mammoth 50-hour pool marathon at 10am on the 15 October, continuing all the way through to 12:35pm on the 17 October.
In total, he recorded 185 wins and just 36 losses, with Ian doing it to raise funds for the university's Student Hardship Fund, which has been created to help students who are struggling financially.
He said the amount of support he got from the likes of students and graduates across it was 'overwhelming' and left him feeling 'humbled'.
On potting his final ball and crossing the finish line, he said: “It has been incredible, there have been people with me throughout the challenge, students, staff members, people from the community and former students have been coming in to play pool against me and donate.
“The standout moment was when a graduate, who no longer lives locally, came in to play me, this former student had personally benefited from the hardship fund when they were studying here and they heard about what I was doing and they came in to give back, play a game, and cheer me on.
“That’s why raising money for the hardship fund is so important, the difference it makes to people stays with them for a very long time.”
He's raised over £650 through the challenge.
