Success across Worcestershire for spaces retaining Green Flag Award status
A number of sites in the county have been given the award for 2026
Those looking after some of Worcestershire's green spaces have said it's "excellent" to see a number of them have been given a Green Flag Award for 2026.
The award, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and aims to recognise parks and green spaces that are safe, welcoming and well-managed, has seen a total of 2,391 sites across the UK been given the accolade this time around.
Several are in Worcestershire, including the likes of Worcester's Fort Royal Park and Redditch's Overdale Park, although there was none for Herefordshire.
Rob Stevenson is the countryside sites officer for Worcestershire County Council who have seen its Worcester Woods Country Park, Waseley Hills Country Park, and St Wulstan’s Local Nature Reserve retain their status, he said it was excellent news and they work hard to keep them in shape.
"The team is very dedicated to what they do and they really enjoy it," he said.
"We have a sense of ownership of our own sites so we obviously want to keep them in as best state as they can be.
"The work we would do ranges all the way from writing management plans, sort of like 20, 25 year plans on the future where the county council wants them to go, all the way down to doing the practical management of the natural areas such as woodland and all the sort of fencing."
Others listed range from Kidderminster's Broadwaters Mill Park to Bromsgrove's Sanders Park.
