The construction of the new £13.5 million Hereford Fire Station witnessed a significant development with the completion of its full steel frame.

This milestone was celebrated during a steel signing ceremony on 6th March 2026.

Chief Fire Officer Jon Pryce KFSM, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ade Elliott, Councillor Roger Phillips OBE, and several members from the Speller Metcalfe project team and management gathered to sign the final beams.

The modern facility replaces the previous fire station, which was demolished after a temporary station was set up to ensure service delivery.

Extensive groundwork and piling preceded this latest update.

Remarks from the Chief Fire Officer

Chief Fire Officer Jon Pryce KFSM highlighted the importance of this development.

“We are delighted that our latest capital build project has reached this important stage, this will be an excellent facility of which we can all be proud,” Pryce said.

He added that the new station would meet the needs of the modern fire and rescue service and focus on response, protection, and prevention strategies, along with improved energy efficiency and sustainability.

Speller Metcalfe's Professionalism

Mark Hudgeon, Regional Director at Speller Metcalfe, spoke of the significance of the steel frame completion.

“This milestone represents a key moment in the delivery of the new Hereford Fire Station, and it reflects the exceptional professionalism and partnership shown across the entire team,” Hudgeon said.

He expressed pride in the progress and a commitment to maintain momentum as the project moves through upcoming phases.

Future Plans for the Fire Station

Once completed, the four-storey structure will host modern operational and training spaces, outdoor areas, and a drill tower.

Its eco-friendly design aims to enhance long-term environmental performance.

The design was overseen by Bond Bryan Architects and is part of the Pagabo procurement framework.
