Rik Mayall Comedy Festival's return was "a real success", say organisers
The festival was set up last year to commemorate the actor, who grew up in Droitwich
The organisers of a Droitwich comedy festival in memory of Rik Mayall say this year's event was a real success.
The nine-day event brought more than 300 performances to venues across the town earlier this month, celebrating the life of the comedian and actor who grew up in the area.
Chair of the Festival Committee Chris Broad said: "Some local businesses have said they've had a 200% increase in trade while the festival was on, so we're very pleased about that.
"Especially on the first Saturday - it was absolutely heaving in the town centre."
The Rik Mayall Comedy Festival was held for the first time last May in memory of the actor and comedian who grew up in the town and worked and performed at the Norbury Theatre.
Mayall, who starred in Blackadder and The Young Ones, passed away in 2014 at the age of 56.
