Peregrine Falcon livestream returns to Worcester Cathedral
Birds bring excitement as they revisit their urban nesting site
After spending time nesting elsewhere in Worcester city centre, the beloved Peregrine Falcons known as Peter and Peggy have returned to Worcester Cathedral.
The cathedral had previously shut down its popular livestream in April when the adult pair initially rejected their usual nesting site.
Recently, the Peregrine Falcons in Worcester team discovered that the pair had raised three healthy chicks in a different location.
Last week, these chicks began fledging, leading the family back to the tallest building in the city.
The birds have made the cathedral their base once again, allowing the fledglings to hone their flying and hunting skills.
Worcester Cathedral has resumed its livestream, offering viewers the chance to witness the falcons' daily activities and interactions.
In a statement, Worcester Cathedral said: “Welcome home peregrines!
"We’re delighted to welcome back our peregrine falcon family this week!
"After weeks of mystery and speculation, our resident pair, Peter and Peggy (“Mr & Mrs P”), successfully nested elsewhere in the city centre – and we’re thrilled to share that all three healthy chicks have now fledged and made their way, along with their parents, back to the Cathedral.
"The family is now using the Cathedral as their base while the fledglings learn vital flying and hunting skills.
"Viewers can once again enjoy the Cathedral livestream and catch glimpses of the family’s daily visits and adventures, like this video of an interaction between Mr and Mrs P early this morning!
"Peregrines are drawn to Cathedral towers because their height mirrors the cliffs and mountainsides they naturally nest on - making Worcester Cathedral the perfect urban sanctuary.
"We look forward to watching this beautiful family thrive over the coming weeks and hope they may choose to nest here again next season.”
