A second person has been arrested in connection with a dog attack that left a woman with serious injuries near Newent last month.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control, Gloucestershire Constabulary said.

She has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The attack happened shortly before 3pm on Saturday 29th August, when a woman in her 30s was delivering a parcel to a property in Malswick.

She was attacked by two Cane Corsos.

According to police, the dogs' owner was not at home at the time.

The woman managed to call police and got inside her vehicle for safety while she waited for help to arrive.

Officers attended the scene and a police dog handler secured the animals behind the gates.

The owner was then contacted and both dogs were seized.

Injuries and arrests

The woman was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by paramedics with serious injuries, including significant damage to her arm and other bite wounds on her body.

A man was arrested on suspicion of having dogs dangerously out of control shortly after the attack and was released on police bail.

Police said a woman has now also been arrested on suspicion of the same offence, following an investigation by the constabulary's Criminal Investigation Department.

She has also been released on police bail while further enquiries take place.

Officers are continuing to appeal for information about the dogs involved.

Police said the area is popular with dog walkers and they want to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack, or who has information about any previous incidents involving the two dogs.

Under Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, it is an offence to have a dog dangerously out of control in any place, including private property.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary online.
