Kidderminster man jailed for attempted murder of former partner

A man from Kidderminister has been jailed for the attempted murder of his former partner.

Maxwell Drapkin, 37, previously pleading guilty to intentional strangulation and was convicted of attempted murder following a trial.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Worcester Crown Court today (22 May).

The incident happened in Stourport-on-Severn on 21st September 2025, when Drapkin visited his ex-partner’s home.

He assaulted her by grabbing her neck and pushing her to the floor, before dragging her into the kitchen, and continuing the attack by strangling her and striking her head.

She was taken to hospital with injuries to her head and eye after climbing out of a window bare foot onto broken glass to seek help from neighbours.

Detective Constable Annabelle Davis said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack, which would have been terrifying for the victim. I would like to commend her for her bravery in coming forward to support the investigation, ensuring a violent offender is put behind bars.”

In a victim impact statement Drapkin’s former partner, who does not wish to be named, said: “I am devastated that everything that happened that night would tarnish any future I may have.

"I fear I will never be allowed to forget what happened to me and move on.

“Going to court to attend the trial was extremely difficult for me.

"It took weeks of support from my friends to build up the courage to stand up in front of strangers to talk about something that has deeply affected me personally in many ways.”
