Young people across Herefordshire and Worcestershire are being told by dedicated services for them in both counties the importance of reaching out for support if they need it through exams season.

It's as many are currently sitting their GCSEs and A-Levels exams and will be continuing to do so over the next few weeks.

Careers Worcestershire, which helps 16-24 year-olds, have launched their own guide with some advice for students, while also highlighting how vital it is for them.

Their careers lead, Jennie Ellis, said: "Support during exams matters because I think exam periods put pressure on different parts of a young person's life all at the same time.

"So that might be learning, it might be confidence and well-being and also future expectations.

"I think a lot of young people feel that pressure that if they don't get the grades then they miss out in the long run, so good support really helps students in lots of practical ways as well as with their emotions and well-being."

The Herefordshire Youth Employment Hub, which opened last February and is a space dedicated to helping 16 to 24-year-olds into employment, education or training, is also highlighting the importance of people talking openly about any concerns they have.

Their coordinator Amy Tommey said: ""Exam season can be a really stressful time for young people and their families, but I think with the right support and simple strategy it can feel much more manageable.

"Also reach out if you're struggling, you're not expected to do this on your own, talk to teachers, friends or support services.

"Really importantly, don't forget to look after yourself, focus on your sleep, eating and taking breaks, that's just as important as the revision."

Support

Support for young people is available through Childline's 24/7 service by contacting 0800 1111, or also over on their website.
