A man from Herefordshire is set to aim to run his first full marathon of his life this weekend when he takes part in the London Marathon.

41-year-old Andrew Davis from Bromyard has completed a number of other challenges on his bike and has also been a keen runner for a while.

In 2021, he completed an endurance cycle ride from Land’s End to John O'Groats, and in 2022 he conquered the Ride London-Essex 100.

A carpenter and joiner by trade, Andrew is also a volunteer at the Royal National College For The Blind (RNC), assisting with tandem piloting and providing visually impaired students with the opportunity to experience cycling on the new cycle track in Hereford.

Andrew is running the marathon to raise funds for the college and says he is excited ahead of it all.

"I thought, I have never run a marathon, but I would like to run one, and if I was going to do one, I might as well do the biggest one in the country to be fair," he said.

"The training has been a lot, I'm not going to lie, I've done quite a lot of running and cycling for the past 20 years or so and have run quite a few half marathons, but then when you ramp up to start doing marathon training, your training runs are half marathons, so it's a huge jump.

"I secured my ballot place and thought that I better not let it go to waste really and saw it would be a good opportunity to not only raise funds for RNC, but awareness for the college and the work it does."

Since December Andrew says he has ran over 600 miles in preparation for Sunday (27 April).
