Former teacher denies sexual offence charges

A former teacher from Ledbury has appeared in court charged with non-recent sexual offences in Southampton
77-year-old Pauline Newton, who's from Browning Road in Ledbury, faces four counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16, a charge under the Sexual Offences Act 1956.
The alleged offences took place between 1971 and 1973 at St Anne’s Convent School in Southampton.
Newton appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court where she denied the charges.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for 11th August at Southampton Crown Court.
The case was brought to light following a report made to the police in December 2024, leading to an investigation by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Operation Marmion team.
This team specialises in investigating non-recent sexual abuse cases involving institutions or individuals of prominence.
Police are encouraging anyone who has been a victim of child sexual abuse to reach out and report their experiences confidentially via the police non-emergency number, 101.
