Droitwich man jailed for cannabis cultivation
Festim Ahmetaj has been sent to prison for 34 months
A Droitwich man has been sentenced to a total of 34 months in jail, for cannabis cultivation and breaching a deportation order.
Festim Ahmetaj, 35, of Victoria Square, was convicted at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday (30 April) of cultivating a class B drug – cannabis and knowingly enter the UK in breach of a deportation order.
Ahmetaj was sentenced to 24 months in prison, the forfeiture and destruction of cannabis plants and growing equipment, the forfeiture of £300 cash and to pay a victim surcharge of £228 for the first offence and 10 months consecutively for the second offence.
Notice was also given to the Border and Immigration Agency that he may be liable for deportation.
Ahmetaj’s arrest, charges and sentencing followed a drugs warrant carried out by Task Force and Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team on Wednesday 1 April.
Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Droitwich, Lisa Hornberger, said: “We are pleased to swiftly get a custodial sentencing for Ahmetaj following our warrant at the address in Victoria Square last month.
“Cannabis grows like this are often linked to organised criminal gangs and this is another one shut down and the ‘farmer’ behind bars.
“Ahmetaj also breached a deportation order so he ultimately faces being thrown out of the UK pending a decision by the Border and Immigration Agency.”
