An air force veteran who served with the Gloucester unit says armistice day is an opportunity to highlight the work service charities do.

Services are taking place across the country to remember those who have served in the British armed forces and many will be remembering not just the first and second world wars but also more recent conflicts.

Georgie Smith, who now lives in Worcestershire, says the help from charities like Help for Heroes is vital for veterans struggling with their mental health and adjusting to civilian life.

She says this time of year can stir up a lot of emotions for people remembering their friends who they served alongside and lost.

She said: ā€œwe need to keep site of the support that we need to give to our service charities in order for them to help and reach in and pull some of us veterans out of the black holes that service life has sometimes created for us.ā€
