Starting this week, Tewkesbury brough council has made things easier for small businesses and organisers of community events.

a revised Street Trading Licensing Policy will reduce paperwork and make Routine renewals no longer subject to consultation. This hopes to speed up the process and help people to start trading, organise community more events and or even sell small amounts of home-grown produce.

The new policy also means a street trading consent will no longer be needed in some circumstances.

This includes for short-term charity and community events, such as school fairs and village fetes.

People will also be able to sell small amounts of surplus produce from their homes and gardens, such as fruit, vegetables, plants and eggs without needing to obtain a street trading consent.

It is hoped that this will reduce food waste and encourage people in Tewkesbury to sell any extra home grown produce.

Councillor Murray Stewart, Lead Member for Environmental Services, said "These changes introduce a more practical and proportionate approach to street trading across the borough.''

''They will make it easier for traders to operate, support community events and remove unnecessary barriers for residents who occasionally sell surplus produce, while maintaining appropriate safeguards for local communities."
