Funding gives theatre stability to keep flourishing

The Roses theatre in Tewkesbury has been granted a six figure funding boost from Tewkesbury Borough Council.
The money has been granted to help The Roses build on its own success, the theatre already brings £2.1 million into the town and the surrounding area every year.
The council hope the £150,000, given over 3 years, will help build a lasting legacy of culture in Tewkesbury.
Councillor Richard Stanley, Lead Member for Economic Development and Leader of Tewkesbury Borough Council has said, ''The Roses Theatre is a huge part of our community and a real asset to the borough.''
He added, ''It plays a vital role in local life and the economy, already bringing £2.1m into the town and the surrounding area every year. This investment builds on that success, giving the theatre the stability to continue to grow as a vibrant cultural hub.''
Celebrating its 50th anniversary last year, The Roses theatre has been a huge part of arts and culture in Tewkesbury.
More than 500 people a week benefit from the theatre’s various community-facing sessions.
More than 80,000 people a year attend its productions, with a third of them visiting from beyond Gloucestershire.
The theatre’s Artistic Director, Derek Bond said the funding will help the theatre continue to serve the community.
“The cost of shows has risen by 67% in the last year alone. That places more demands than ever on theatres and funders to act efficiently, creative and collaboratively to ensure we can continue to bring the economic, cultural and well-being benefits of live theatre to our towns and communities.''
Funding granted by Tewkesbury Borough Council hopes to support The Roses theatre to continue to grow and serve local peole as a hub of culture and community.
