Man in his 40s dies after suspected stabbing in Cheltenham

Three arrested following tragedy in the St Paul's area

A man in his 40s has died following a suspected stabbing in Cheltenham yesterday (16th December).

Police were called at around 2.45pm with reports that someone had been injured in an alleyway between Albert Road and Hungerford Street in the St Paul’s area of the town.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The coroner has also been updated.

Police arrest three individuals

Officers, including armed police, conducted a search of the area and arrested three people. In custody are two teenagers and a man, who remain after their detention.

Superintendent James Glansfield said:

"We understand that the nature of this incident will cause shock to the community, particularly given the age of those arrested.

"A thorough investigation is now underway by MCIT after officers quickly arrested three individuals.

"A cordon remains in place while forensic officers examine the scene. There will be an increased presence of police officers in the area and we would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to them.

"The victim's family are being supported by specialist officers and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) is in the early stages of its investigation, and a police presence will remain in the area.
