Stroud has been recognised as the third best place in the South West to grow old.

It's according to a study by Lovett Care, which assessed districts across England based on various factors impacting later life.

The study took into consideration factors like health, care, transport, housing costs, environment and community.

Stroud had the lowest loneliness rates in the region, with only 3.85% of adults reporting feeling lonely often.

With a national ranking of 42nd out of 294 districts, Stroud also has the third-best environment score in the South West.

It was noted that the number of pharmacies in Stroud has risen by 6.25% over four years, the largest increase in the South West. As a result it is easier for older residents to pick up prescriptions and get everyday health advice.

Elsewhere in Gloucestershire, The Forest of Dean ranked 7th in the South West.

The Cotswolds also appeared in the region's top five, and ranked 73rd in England. It had the best environment score in the South West and the second-best for community and safety.
