A 10k charity walk is raising money for Sue Ryder's Lekhampton Court hospice in Cheltenham.

The Starlight Hike is a night-time walk under the stars, those taking part will be raising vital funds for Sue Ryder's expert end of life palliative care and grief support services.

It is also an opportunity to remember lost loved ones and show gratitude to the staff that care for patients and support their families at Lekhampton Court Hospice.

We spoke to Samantha Sykes, senior regional fundraiser for Sue Ryder.

She said, ''Sue Ryder relies on fundraising to keep its expert palliative and end of life care and grief support services going. Sue Ryder has to raise thirty pounds to fund an hour of expert care.''

''Events like Starlight Hike are fantastic fundraising opportunities for us and people really do get behind that.''

She added, ''We have at the moment over 800 walkers and we really hope more people will come and sign up on the day.''

Samantha told us that the Starlight Hike builds community and connects people who have been helped by the charity.

She said, ''Events like this help people to connect with others who've experienced grief, to celebrate the memory of somebody special and to take time to reflect. For many people that come and do the hike, it's also a chance to give back to Sue Ryder and Lekhampton Court Hospice.''

She added, ''Events like this are very special to us.''

The Starlight Hike begins at Ashley Manor Preparatory School, with the site open from 6pm on Saturday 17th October, and walkers are welcome to sign up on the day.
