Police appeal for witnesses after attempted ram raid burglary at Forest of Dean shop

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted ram raid burglary at a shop in Newent early this morning (December 22).

Officers were called to the Co-Op on Market Square around 12.35am following reports of a group of four masked men forcing their way into the store using weapons.

Police say once inside, the group attempted to break into an ATM machine using circular saws.

No money was stolen from the ATM, but the shop sustained extensive damage.

The men, who were dressed in dark clothing and balaclavas, left the the area in a black car.

Police are asking anyone who saw the vehicle in the area at that time or has dashcam footage or CCTV of relevance to contact them.
