Community groups invited to apply for funding in Gloucestershire
Grants of up to £7,500 are available under the Thriving Communities scheme
Community and voluntary organisations across Gloucestershire are being invited to apply for funding to support local projects that help adults stay well, connected and independent.
The Thriving Communities Grant scheme, run by Gloucestershire County Council, offers grants of between £500 and £7,500 to groups working to reduce isolation and strengthen communities.
Since launching in 2018, the programme has supported more than 480 initiatives and invested nearly £3.2 million in groups across the county.
This year, 79 organisations received funding through the scheme.
Previous grants have supported community hubs, creative and gardening groups, digital skills activities, carers' initiatives, befriending schemes and other volunteer-led projects.
According to the council, these projects help tackle loneliness and isolation by bringing people together for friendship, learning and shared experiences.
Befriending and buddying schemes are among the initiatives that have received grants, helping people build confidence, make new connections and take part in community life.
Community transport services have also benefited from the funding, helping people access activities and services, particularly in rural areas.
Grants can additionally be used by organisations to recruit, train and support volunteers, helping local groups continue their work.
New delivery partner for this year's scheme
This year, Gloucestershire County Council is delivering the Thriving Communities Grant scheme through Fund Gloucestershire, a new county-wide non-profit organisation set up to make funding more accessible for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.
Councillor Dr Kate Usmar, Cabinet Member for Adults' Support and Independence at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "Strong communities play a vital role in helping people stay healthy, connected and independent. Through this important scheme, we're investing in local organisations that bring people together, reduce isolation and help residents remain active and involved in their communities."
She added: "We know community groups and volunteers make a real difference to people's lives every day, and we're looking forward to supporting more inspiring initiatives through this year's programme."
