Airport sale to go ahead despite political instability
Gloucestershire airport will be sold as plans to help clear council debts
The planned sale of Gloucestershire Airport will continue as scheduled, despite the recent ousting of Gloucester City Council’s leader.
Liberal Democrat Jeremy Hilton lost a vote of no-confidence on 24th September, with the council now operating without a formal leader.
Councillors have agreed to allow officers to proceed with the airport sale process.
The 375-acre airport, located in Staverton, is jointly owned by Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council.
Bids for the airport are set to close on 30th September, The council says the sale is needed to help cut its multi-million pound debts.
Councillor Andy Lewis emphasised the necessity of selling the airport, stating the council "can't live in fantasy land anymore."
Despite the political instability, the council reassures the public that critical projects, including the airport sale, remain unaffected and are progressing as planned.
