Gloucester is gearing up for an exciting new waterfront festival.

A Weekend by Water kicks off at Gloucester Docks this weekend, from 25th to 26th April 2026.

This free, first-of-its-kind event transforms the historic docks into a lively hub, celebrating the city's unique waterside heritage with live entertainment, hands-on activities, and delicious food and drink.

Visitors will enjoy creative workshops, pop-up experiences, and interactive activities suitable for all ages.

One of the standout experiences will be the opportunity to board the historic cargo schooner Kathleen & May.

Karen Taylor, Lead Volunteer of Kathleen & May, expressed enthusiasm: "We’re delighted to welcome visitors aboard Kathleen & May as part of A Weekend by Water at the historic Port of Gloucester. This free event offers a rare chance to step back in time and experience life aboard a working cargo schooner in her heyday."

Food and drink will be a highlight, with local traders offering a range of street food favourites and artisan treats, perfect for enjoying by the water.

Festival-goers can also explore Llanthony Secunda Priory, which opens its doors for tours and open days.

Sarah Lewis, Operations Manager, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to step inside our historic buildings, explore the beautiful grounds, and discover the stories that have shaped this remarkable site over nearly 900 years."

Organised by Gloucester BID, the festival aims to become a standout annual event, celebrating Gloucester’s heritage and bringing fresh energy to the city centre.
