Cheltenham Borough Council have teamed up with Keep Britain Tidy for ‘Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight.

The campaign aims to educate local people about criminal waste traders.

These rogue traders use professional looking online advertisements, fake reviews and reasonable prices to lure in customers, then they will often illegally dump the waste they are paid to take away.

During Fight Fly tipping Fortnight, people can learn what to look out for and how to legally and safely dispose of their household rubbish.

This includes asking for a waste carrier licence, checking the number on the Environment Agency’s public register and making sure you’ll get a proper receipt!

Cllr Jamie Jamieson, cabinet member for safety and communities, said, “Fly-tipping takes a real toll on communities. It blights our urban neighbourhoods as well as country lanes.

We want Cheltenham’s residents to be more aware of the rogue traders who claim to take your rubbish away, only to then just fly-tip it. And we also want to remind people that we can all use our recycling banks.''

Fight Fly-tipping Fortnight will run from the 12th to the 25th October 2026.
