The Hoptician in Dursley has been crowned CAMRA's Cider and Perry Pub of the Year 2026.

Owners Kevin and Kirsty say the community has been a huge part of their success. Lots of customers were there celebrating the award on Friday.

As the hospitality industry struggles and pubs close weekly across the country, stories like this are a beacon of positivity, shedding light on pubs that remain vital community hubs here in Gloucestershire and beyond.

The award and impact of the Hoptician is particularly impressive as its only been open the two and a half years!

Kevin said, ''We've put a lot of hard work into our little baby, The Hoptician, and its nice to feel that other people appreciate it as well.''

''I was a wall and floor tiler for 35 years, with bad knees, I always liked my beer. We found this place in an online auction. We came for a weekend four years ago and bought it - online. Doing everything you shouldn't do.''

''We'd never heard of Dursley before!'' Kirsty added.

Their gamble seems to have paid off, Kevin and Kirsty say that the community have been really supportive of their venture and wanted to thank all their customers and staff for their ongoing support.

''We've met so many friends from them coming in here, who will be our friends forever I think.''

Stroud MP Dr Simon Opher was there at the prize giving to congratulate Kevin and Kirsty on their win.

The Hoptician welcomed the community in to celebrate the award.

He said, ''I've worked in Dursley for about 30 years, I've cycled past this place for many years and when they opened this place it totally transformed the centre of the town. I think its great place and I'm so happy for them winning this award.''

Simon added, ''Its a little secret of ours and now we’ve got some wider recognition.''
