Gloucestershire County Council is set to extend its current e-scooter trial with Voi, while laying the groundwork for a new joint e-scooter and e-bike scheme.

The e-scooter trial, initially due to conclude in May 2026, will now run until May 2028, following an extension by the Department for Transport (DfT).

Extension Secured for Smooth Transition

The council is now seeking to extend the existing contract with Voi from 1st July 2026 to 30th June 2027.

This short-term extension ensures continuity for the scheme’s 37,600 active users and prepares for the transition to a combined e-scooter and e-bike service set to launch in July 2027.

Procurement Process Commences

A competitive procurement process will begin in June 2026 for the new joint concession contract, which aims to expand micromobility services across Gloucestershire.

Set to commence in July 2027, the new scheme will integrate e-bikes to complement the existing e-scooter service, enhancing accessibility and contributing to social value and sustainable transport goals.

Strategic Importance

The e-scooter trial has played a significant role in reducing car journeys and supporting the local transport plan’s climate change commitments.

The council will conduct market research and stakeholder engagement to ensure the new joint scheme offers value for money and aligns with user needs.

The new joint e-scooter and e-bike contract, starting in July 2027, will be reviewed annually, with possible extensions up to four years.

Gloucestershire aims to introduce innovative micromobility solutions while maintaining safety and quality standards as part of its continued participation in the DfT trial.
