Grieving families distressed by anti-social behaviour
Reports of dogs not on leads and other anti-social behaviour is causing upset for visitors at Gloucester Old Cemetery
Visitors to Gloucester Old Cemetery, also known as Tredworth Road Cemetery are reporting more instances of anti-social behaviour.
This includes dogs being off lead and running freely around the cemetery. Dogs are reportedly fouling on gravestones and the mess is not being picked up by some owners,
Families have contacted the council to complain about this behaviour.
Cemetery staff have had reports of visitors feeling intimidated by large dogs running towards them.
Signs to enforce that dogs should be kept on leads have reportedly been vandalised with black spray paint.
In a statement, Declan Wilson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources at Gloucester City Council, said:
“The vast majority of dog owners act responsibly, and we thank them for doing so. However, a small number of individuals are continuing to ignore the rules, causing distress to others and showing a lack of respect for the cemetery, the bereaved, and those who work to maintain the grounds.''
The council say they are aware of reports of anti-social behaviour within the cemetery and is continuing to work closely with Gloucestershire Police to address these concerns.
