Wessex Water is set to fund an £11 million enforcement package to address issues in its wastewater network, Ofwat has announced.

According to Ofwat, the company, which serves regions including Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, failed to adequately operate, maintain, and upgrade its wastewater infrastructure to manage sewage and wastewater flows effectively.

The enforcement package, which follows a 21-day consultation period after a proposed decision was announced on 11th November, will not be covered by customer bills but paid entirely by the company and its shareholders.

The measures include sealing sewer pipes on private lands to prevent groundwater entry, investment to reduce spills at storm overflows sooner than originally planned, adding monitoring equipment to improve management of flows, and helping customers manage rainwater sustainably.

Lynn Parker, Senior Director for Enforcement at Ofwat, said: "We are pleased with the conclusion of Wessex Water’s case.

"This is the sixth case completed in our wider wastewater investigation, which during 2025 has resulted in Ofwat securing £250 million in fines and enforcement packages.

"These cases are a crucial part of holding water companies to account and driving the transformation of the water sector that the public wants to see."
