A man who runs a stall inside the Rivergate in Irvine is opening up about an attack on his brother by teenagers which left him struggling to walk.

Stefan Ogilvie has just returned after having cancer treatment and says Aidan needed two screws in his knee after the incident.

"He had to get surgery"

He told Hits Radio: "He volunteered to help run the stall while I was recovering from chemotherapy.

"On one of those days he asked some kids hassling the guys in the shops across from us to move on and one of them pushed him which shattered his kneecap.

"He had to get surgery, including two screws in his knee and 27 staples, he won't be able to walk for a couple of months."

The facility opened back in 1975 and is open 24/7 which means anyone can cross through it from one side of the town to the other.

"We've lost two whole afternoons worth of sales"

Stefan says the child who pushed his brother has since returned to the shopping centre and is now intimidating him.

Stefan added: "It's traumatising and I don't see why more can't be done about the issue.

"We've lost two whole afternoons worth of sales and on Valentine's Day we only had one or two sales because people are being put off.

"There should be a policy in place by the local authority to address anti-social behaviour with the police cracking down on it."

Local Area Commander Judith Macgregor said: “We understand the impact anti-social behaviour and disorder can have in our community, and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated across the Irvine area.

“Officers continue to work closely alongside our partner agencies to combat anti-social behaviour and are carrying out additional patrols in the area to address these concerns.

“Anyone with concerns or information is encouraged to contact officers, either locally or on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
