Glasgow Subway carriage transformed into podcast studio
A piece of Glasgow's transport history has been given an unexpected new life, as a vintage Glasgow Subway carriage has been transformed into Subway Studios, a fully equipped podcast, broadcast and events space in Finnieston.
Operated by the award-winning team at Whistledown Scotland, Subway Studios combines professional broadcast facilities with one of Glasgow's most recognisable landmarks, creating a recording space unlike anywhere else in the UK.
Known as the 'Clockwork Orange', Glasgow's Subway is the third-oldest underground railway in the world and an enduring symbol of the city. The restored carriage now provides a distinctive setting for podcasts, video content, athlete interviews, livestreams, media appearances and branded productions.
Located just minutes from the city's major sporting and entertainment venues, including Scotstoun Stadium, the SEC, OVO Hydro and the Emirates Arena, Subway Studios is expected to become a popular destination for broadcasters, production companies and creators working in Glasgow.
The studio has already been used to record BBC Radio 4’s ‘The Reunion’ presented by Kirsty Wark and it aims to make professional content production accessible, with Whistledown’s trademark bold style.
David Prest, Managing Director at Whistledown Scotland, said: "We wanted to create more than just another studio space. We wanted to create a place that people would remember. Transforming one of its iconic subway carriages into a working broadcast studio felt like the perfect way to celebrate Glasgow's creativity and character."
Subway Studios is now available for bookings from businesses, broadcasters, agencies, production companies, creators and organisations looking for a distinctive venue for recording or events.
