Police investigating rape of Glasgow teen release description of attacker

Police investigating the rape of a teenage girl in a Glasgow park have released a description of the attacker.

The 16-year-old was approached by a man in Springburn Park, near the Moongate on the north east side, between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Friday.

The suspect pushed her into the bushes and raped her, before fleeing the area.

Suspect described as "tanned" and "possibly European"

He is described as being in his 30s, with a tanned complexion, possibly European, with a tanned complexion, and of average height and build.

He was dressed in a black baseball cap, lightweight jacket, and trousers.

Detectives in Glasgow are actively working to identify the man and are eager to trace the direction he took after the assault.

Officers are also reviewing nearby CCTV footage and urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Sharon McPeake said: “this was an extremely shocking incident on a young victim who continues to receive dedicated support from specialist officers.

“It is crucial we identify the man responsible and we are appealing for the public’s help with our enquiries.

Any information should be reported, even if it seemed insignificant

"Think back, were you in Springburn Park on this day? Did you notice anyone of this description or anyone acting suspicious?"

The park is known to be frequented by locals, dog walkers, and sports clubs.

Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, is encouraged to report it.

Detectives have also appealed for those with private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage to check for any relevant material and contact police.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Mhairi Crawford addressed community concerns, reassuring increased police visibility in the area following the incident.

Officers will undertake dedicated patrols and engage with park visitors, local groups, and community members.
