Two men have been arrested in Clacton after an aggravated burglary.
They have also been charged and remanded in custody following an investigation from police detectives.
The incident happened on Vista Road on Sunday morning, and officers were called to reports that a car was stolen from a driveway.
They later found that two suspects had forced entry to an address and assaulted two occupants before stealing jewellery and the vehicle.
Both victims were taken to hospital following the assault.
The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned on Meredith Road.
Charges of aggravated burglary, robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm have now been authorised against Anthony Johannessen, 34, of no fixed address and Luke Byles, 50, of Ellis Road, Clacton.
Both men are due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court.
Essex Police have issued a warning to the public that an image circulating online "does not accurately depict either of the charged individuals."
They ask the public not to share the image further and to wait for official channels for updates.
Inspector Grant Fryatt said: “This was a frightening incident in which two people were assaulted in their own home, and detectives worked at pace to establish the circumstances.
“As a result of that work, and with support from the public, we have now secured charges and recovered the stolen vehicle.
“Incidents like this are rare, but when something of this nature does occur, I hope residents feel reassured that we will respond robustly and without delay.”
