Southend United match to be the first live-streamed on TikTok
The club's game will be the first on the app
Southend United's 5:30pm kick-off against Carlisle United will be the first professional football match to be broadcast in full on TikTok.
The free live-stream will be the first time this has happened in the UK.
The aim of this initiative, which will be happening across the National League, is to make football more accessible for fans.
They hope that clubs can "grow their engagement" and "reach wider audiences."
The Shrimpers' match is the first to be broadcast.
Ben Humphries, life-long fan of the club, said:
"As a Southend fan who goes to almost every game in a season, I think it is swings and roundabouts.
"I can't say it is necessarily a good or a bad thing. I think it is quite cool that we will be the first professional game in the world whose match is streamed on TikTok.
"But with us being the first game and a bit of a trial, I don't know how it is going to play out.
"I don't think it will affect the match day experience, or authenticity.
"We are a very well supported club for the division we are in, and we do have a fantastic fan base, and I don't think many people would think 'I won't go to the game today because it is on TikTok.
"Largely I think this is because there is a feeling of authenticity attached to the club."
