Investigation into fatal Southend Airport aircraft crash continues
A year after the tragedy, the AAIB's examination remains ongoing
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is continuing its investigation into the fatal crash of an aircraft at London Southend Airport last year.
All four people aboard the Beech B200 Super King Air, PH-ZAZ died on the 13th July 2025.
The AAIB says the aircraft experienced a loss of control, initially yawing to the left before deviating to the left of the runway centreline in a climbing turn.
After reaching an altitude of between 70 and 80 feet, the aircraft turned through 90 degrees before descending back towards the ground, resulting in a fiery impact within the airfield boundary.
The AAIB has been working to identify the factors contributing to the loss of control, examining technical, operational, human, and organisational aspects.
Despite the significant damage to the aircraft, the AAIB is collaborating with manufacturers to examine remaining physical evidence.
The flight path has been reconstructed using witness video, CCTV footage, and ADS-B data, given that the aircraft was not required to have flight data or cockpit voice recorders.
Analysis of gathered evidence is ongoing, and a final report is to be published once the investigation concludes.
