A serving City of London Police officer from Waltham Abbey has been convicted of assault by beating following an investigation by Essex Police.

Manpreet Callo, 30, was fined £800 when he appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 January.

He was convicted of assault by beating after he pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at the same court on Wednesday 3 December.

He admitted approaching his victim at Hillhouse, Waltham Abbey, on the morning of Friday 24 October 2025 and grabbing his coat and pulling him.

Chief Superintendent Sanjay Andersen, Head of Professionalism and Trust at the City of London Police, said:

“Callo was off duty and intoxicated when he assaulted a child in a public place.

“The incident was witnessed by members of the public who expressed concerns about Callo’s behaviour and rightly called the police.

“His conviction will undoubtedly have affected trust and confidence in policing, the City of London Police will continue with misconduct proceedings as quickly as possible.”

Manpreet has been suspended since the time of his arrest.

City of London Police have confirmed that Manpreet Callo will now face misconduct proceedings.
